Itinerary

DAY 1

In the morning we will leave the city and head to Seliba! We will make a cultural stop at Powakka to take a look insight an indigenous village.

When we arrive, there will be no obligations. You can do whatever you’d like. Whether it’s supping on the river, take a dive in the pool or just relax! Later this day we will go for a hike. Your guide will take you into the jungle and we are hoping to see some animals! After dinner we can do another hike, because the jungle awakens when it gets dark. Or we can sit at the campfire, relax in the hot tub, play games at the lounge etc.

DAY 2 & 3

You will wake up with the sounds of monkeys and birds! Seliba has a lot of rare birds which you can see up close.

There are different trails at Seliba which we can hike this day to search for all the amazing animals Seliba has to offer. Of course there is also time to relax or do some water activities! After lunch on the last day we will leave this magical place.

WILDLIFE YOU CAN ENCOUNTER AT SELIBA

Bare-necked Fruitcrow

This distinctive bird can be found in the tropical forests of Suriname, including the Seliba area. Males are easily recognised by their glossy black plumage and striking bare, bluish neck, while females are slightly duller in appearance. These birds thrive in the forest canopy, where they feed primarily on fruit, playing a crucial role in seed dispersal. In Seliba, they can often be spotted perched high in the trees or heard making their deep, resonant calls, especially in the early morning. Keep an eye out for their slow, deliberate flight as they move between fruiting trees.

Aquatic Coral Snake

(Micrurus surinamensis)

This striking and highly venomous snake can be found in the freshwater habitats of Suriname, including the rivers and wetlands around Seliba. Recognizable by its bold black and yellow bands with red markings, this semi-aquatic species is an excellent swimmer. Spotting this rare serpent in Seliba’s waterways is a unique experience, showcasing the incredible biodiversity of the region.

Emeral Tree Boa

(Corallus caninus)

The Emerald Tree Boa is a stunning non-venomous snake found in the lush rainforests of Suriname, including the Seliba region. Its vibrant green coloration, often patterned with white zigzag markings, provides excellent camouflage among the dense foliage. This arboreal predator is known for its strong prehensile tail, which helps it grip branches as it ambushes prey like birds and small mammals. Despite its fierce appearance and impressive size, it is a calm and slow-moving species, typically seen coiled around branches during the day. Spotting one in Seliba’s forests is a true highlight for any wildlife enthusiast!
