Itinerary
DAY 1
In the morning we will leave the city around 8 am and head to the Fredberg where we will arrive at noon at the base camp. Here we will relax, explore the area and have lunch. In the afternoon we leave for the top of the mountain. This walk takes about 2 to 3 hours and on the way the guide will tell you everything about the area and hopefully we will spot some amazing animals too! Once on top of the mountain we can enjoy a beautiful sunset. From the top we may see monkeys, macaws and other birds flying by. At the top there is a hammock camp (with hammocks) where we stay the night.
DAY 2
Waking up at sunrise between howler monkeys while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee. After breakfast we will walk downhill to the base camp and on the way, we will of course look for beautiful animals and plants! Around noon we arrive at the base camp where we will have lunch. In the afternoon there is time to swim in the river, enjoy the surroundings and relax! In the evening, after dinner, we go for a night walk! In the dark there are other animals active than during the day; snakes, frogs, tarantulas and other nocturnal animals awaken. During the night walk, the guide will also tell you all about it. At base camp there are several lodges and a large dormitory with beds.
DAY 3
For the enthusiast, we can take a walk in the morning and experience the awakening of nature and the animals. Around noon (after lunch) we leave for the city where we arrive again around 18:00 hours. If you want to stay 4 days, we can arrange this day, in consultation with the guide, as you would like. There is time to swim, relax and walk in the area.
WILDLIFE YOU CAN ENCOUNTER ON FREDBERG
Cock of the Rock
As suggested by its name, the Guianan cock-of-the-rock is found in the Guianan Shield, occurring in French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, southern Venezuela, eastern Colombia and northern Amazonian Brazil. Its preferred habitats are humid forests near rocky outcrops.
Spider Monkey
The red-faced spider monkey, also known as the Guiana spider monkey is a species found in undisturbed rainforests. Because of their incredible agility and prehensile tail, spider monkeys can easily grasp onto branches. This gives them an extra hand as they swing through the canopy. They have a patch of skin on their tail, almost like a palm, which helps them to grip effectively, so it really is like a multifunctional fifth hand.
Emerald Tree Boa
(Corallus caninus)
It is not a very easy snake to spot because of the bright green colour. But that colour makes it one of the best snakes of the Suriname jungle. It is a species of boa native to the rainforests of South America, particularly in the Amazon Basin. Despite their striking appearance and sometimes fierce reputation, emerald tree boas are generally non-venomous and rely on constriction to subdue their prey.
